Welcome to East Ham

East Ham is in the East of London and part of the London Borough of Newham. Housing in East Ham consists principally of Victorian and Edwardian terraced town houses, often in tree-lined avenues.  West Ham United FC is the local football team and  is on the western border of East Ham and the eastern border of Upton Park

Entertainment& nightlife

East Ham is home to a large Asian community, which is reflected in the shops and eateries on the high street, which sit side by side with traditional pie and mash shops.  Sporting facilities can be found at East Ham Leisure Centre on Barking Road and a school known for sporting achievements is Langdon Comprehensive Secondary School on Sussex Road. For an interesting sight in E6, visit the Newham College of Art, which has a large mosaic mural over the entrance. Newham Academy of Music can be found on Wakefield Street.

Best place for after work drinks

The Hammers is a small friendly one-bar pub with numerous pictures of West Ham FC decorating the walls. Darts and lunchtime meals. Occasional barbecues in the garden (when the weather is nice...)

Parks & Recreation

There are many green spaces in the otherwise bustling and urbanised area of East Ham. The graveyard of the Norman St Mary's church is maintained as a nature reserve, the largest of its kind in Greater London. Central Park and Plashet Park are the two largest parks in East Ham and both combine open space with playgrounds and cafés.

Restaurants & Shopping
As a multicultural area, there is a diverse variety of shops and restaurants to choose from. Robins offers traditional east end food such as pie and mash and jellied eels. Traditional east end eateries sit harmoniously alongside ethnic and Carribean restaurants. Being just ten minutes from West Ham football ground means it can be busy on match days but it's also close to Stratford Westfield Shopping Centre.
